Pros and cons with different treatments

Method Advantage Disadvantage Other
LASEK/ELSA -No risk of ”lock damage” in the future
-Little loss of the thickness of the cornea -Lower risk of dry eyes -Best sight results in long-term studies
– May hurt for a couple of days
-Takes a little bit of time before good vision is achieved
-A surface method. The epithelium is treated with a weak alcohol solution, which allows the Epithelium to easily move to the side.
Lasik -Your vision will get sharp fast.
-Less pain afterwards
-Chances of “lockinjuries” in the future.
-Will make another surgery more difficult in the future.
-Higher risk to get dry eyes.
-Greater substance loss = higher risk of lost stability (risk of keratoconus in the future)
-Reoperation is required in 5-10% of the cases
-FS intralase = FS -lasik ie the lid is not made mechanically but with femtosecond laser.
Trans-PRK -Easy for the patient.
-No ”lid”
-Small risk of dry eye
-Short ”operating time”
-May be hurt for a couple of days
– Take some time before good vision is achieved much like Elsa / Lasek
-A surface method
-Modernized PRK where the epithelium is removed with the help of the laser.

PRK See trans-PRK See trans-PRK -The oldest method where the epithelium is removed mechanically without alcohol.
EPI-Lasik -Very similar to LASEK / ELSA -See LASEK/ELSA -A superficial method that closely resembles LASEK / ELSA and the epithelium is mechanically moved as well as the classic LASEK method.
Advanced surface abalation -See EPI-Lasik -See EPI-Lasik -See EPI-Lasik
Relex-Smile -Supposed to give less trouble post surgery then PRK.
-Can be compared to LASIK.
-Limited vision values can be treated.
-Large spredge of results.
-Relatively new method without long term results.

”M” additionally indicates the use of Mitomycin for a better controlled healing. Some add this as epithet to the above mentioned methods.
